They came to Johannesburg to study and life dealt them a hard hand. The students come to Johannesburg, wide eyed and ready to make something of their lives till they see how hard it is to survive in Johannesburg. It has gone so far that as some students turning to gambling and some taking part in medical experiments to fund their students. It has been reported that even males have also joined in on this “form of hustle”. They sell their bodies to wealthy old, bi-sexual men for money and a good time. Restaurants that double as nightclubs like Cubana in Green Point are playgrounds for the rich and well known that prey on young girls and promise them the world. When the night is over, these students that are taken to hotels and shown an even “greater time” and are given money for that “time”. Sex is exchanged by these students to men that are old enough to be their grandfathers. No thought is given to the dangers of having sex with these men because in most cases they do not use protection. These men convince these young unsuspecting girls that because they are wealthy and well connected that there is no need to worry and they are safe.

What Happened to making money the honest, hard way? Has having morals and values gone out the window and animalistic survival instincts kicked in? Have these students been dealt such a hard life, that they see objectifying their bodies as the only option?  Surely there are other ways!

Could it be true? Have students been backed into a corner so tight that they’ve seen prostitution as the only means to an end? According to studies done by the National Union Of students in England, it has become a very sad reality in Universities in England and all over the world. With the rise in tuition fees, living expenses and government cuts in financial Aid funds more and more students have turned to soliciting sex for money to survive. Universities in South Africa such as University of Cape Town, Cape Peninsula University of Technology .University of the Western Cape, Durban University of Technology, and the University of Johannesburg  have seen a rise in numbers of students that got arrested in street corners in the middle of the night, prostituting.  Majority of students in South Africa do not rely on the Bank of Mom and Dad and have always had to come up with ingenious ways of making ends meet. The prettier girls are at the forefront of High Class prostitution and would much rather rely their looks to part gullible men form their money.

In Johannesburg, it is said that the prostitution is also a “form of hustle”. The fast paced life of Johannesburg has taken many young lives and many of the prostitutes that are found today on the streets corner all seem to have one story.

Women all over the world view their hair as their “Crowning Glory” and shell out hundreds and even Thousands of Rand, Dollars and Pounds to keep their locks in tip-toe shape.  Although there are those willing to shell a lot of money on their hair, there are those that prefer to go “all -Natural”. As alluring as, not fussing about your hair sounds, let us not be fooled, the look is as high maintenance as the extensions, if not more. A regular weave lasts between 2 to 4 months and even longer depending on the price of that weave, while dreadlocks and afros on the other hand need constant care and frequent visits to professionals to stay clean and presentable. Whether you go long, short, or even curly, you pay a price for your hair one way or the other.

Yes, African and African American women spend more that the fairer skins on their hair than its regarded as “normal” but shouldn’t that be their choice whether they want to spend all that money or not? It is a free country after all and every South African is entitled to express themselves as they see fit, as long as they do not hurt anyone doing so.  There is incredible scrutiny  put on these women by the society that deems itself fit to pass judgement on how African women should look, dress and style their hair and this should not be the case. Patta’s take on the issue was disturbing, merely to shun industry. It was an attempt to make Black people look stupid. Black People were made to look like animals in a zoo, there for the interest and entertainment of others, but not as people with different by equally important realities. There are far more pressing issues that need probing and hair should not be one of them.  Women of all shades, all races, and all classes. Although it can be costly, there is a broad spectrum off cost. 

South African Women and Hair Extensions A 3rd Degree on Ethnic Hair! part one

Not so long ago, June 26^th to be exact, Debra Patta had a segment on Hair Extensions on her very popular controversial journalism programme, 3rd Degree. Needless to say, she was more than just brutal and completely bias on the topic. She was unable to stay objective on the subjective and focused on the industry’s earning and not on WHY people that boost the industry use the products being offered. Her findings were incredibly inaccurate and her judgement or her team’s judgement was clouded by delivering controversial news instead of hitting the real issue.  

The industry in itself is HUGE and makes Millions of Rands each year from the black majority that supports it. That being said, many South Africans who watched the segment expressed, through social networks, their disappointment and how the episode left them “ticked off” at how black women were portrayed. From the moment it was advertised, it was clear that it would be one of the most watched 3rd Degree episodes since the Julius Malema interview.  As the show was playing, Twitter was trending the topic and it was females and males divided. It was “Twar” (Twitter war).  

Is She or isn’t she? “Rihanna princess of the Illuminati” part two

You tube has number of the Pop star’s videos being scrutinized to expose Illuminati Symbols & messages. Videos such as Hard, Rock star 101 and the catchy Rude Boy being at the forefront of Illuminati graffiti. On the Hard video there is writing on a wall in Arabic, which......when translated…..means, “...to him we shall return”. Who is this ‘Him’ she is referring to? Critics seem to be adamant that she is referring to Satan, the true Illuminati God that they follow and praise. The words in Arabic are of a larger phrase, which are spoken at Islamic funerals and burials of the dead. The complete phrase reads…“From Allah we came and to him we shall return”. The video also shows Rihanna sitting with soldiers playing a game which then was later also interpreted to mean that she is suggesting that the War is a game, there are winners and losers, but there are no real victims. Rihanna wins the poker game and walks away a hand full of money hinting that war is a profitable business. The facts...war arms manufactures sales in the US totaled $127 Billion in 2001 and the US government has spent $700 Million on the war in Iraq in 2001.

All of Rihanna’s most controversial videos...“Hard, Rock star 101 and Rude-Boy” are by Melina Masoukas. The most obvious visual commonality between all videos is the use of guns. The777Voice then goes to say that…“The Gun, a phallic symbol could mean in the context of Rihannas music video the social and sexual equality between men and women. In addition showing the power individuals can have over life and death (Like Gods)”. One thing is for sure, whether she is or isn’t the Princess of the Illuminati, we are still buying her albums and she’s laughing all the way to the bank.©

Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty is a Pop and R&b Superstar known for many hits and collaborations. The 24 year old shot up to stardom in 2004 after releasing the catchy tune, “Pon da Replay” which later became a very popular club anthem. When she first arrived in the industry her image was squeaky clean and she was the epitome of the girl next door. With each album we watched as she morphed from that girl we all love into a sexy siren singing about  being “Unfaithful” then to a chained-up deranged woman in a hole in “Disturbia” which was written by now ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown. Those who know her have been known to say that there’s a huge difference between the Rihanna we were first introduced to and the Rihanna we know now. ‘She is edgier, bolder and darker than the girl we used to know’...says a childhood friend.  The pop star has been romantically linked to quite a few music giants after the very public breakup she endured with Chris Brown, 22 in 2010.

Miss Fenty has been reported as saying that she owes most of her success to Jay-Z. He believed in her from the get go and still does today. He, along with a team of publicists is behind Rihannas transformation from ‘Good girl, gone bad”. Also the title of her 2011 album which saw the introduction of the “darker, edgier and bolder” Rihanna. Jay-Z has been on Rihanna’s side throughout her career and was the man she turned to after the break-up with Mr. Brown. The Barbados born star has received a lot of media attention for her love life more recently as rumours flew that she and ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown had gotten back together. He was spotted at her home and a week later at her 24^th birthday celebration, holding hands and kissing to the amazement of party goers and her friends. The star did not confirm nor deny any rumour that she is indeed back together with the convicted abuser but instead has said she is going to collaborate with the R&b star because they have a lot of chemistry and it reflects in their collaborations. She recently returned the favour to him by featuring on the remix of his song, ‘Turn it up’ but said it ends there.

One thing is for sure, Rihanna knows how to get and keep media attention. She is said to be the Princess of the controversial Illuminati and she doesn’t seem to mind the rumours but instead feeds on them by releasing one controversial video after the other. Is Rihanna the Princess Of The illuminati? There has been a lot of controversy involving Rihanna’s new music video “S&M”.  Critics have said the video is too raunchy and therefore it has been banned in 11 countries.  But what is the real reason that the video is being banned.  If you have actually watched the video you probably wondered why it was banned because there are much more sexually explicit music videos than “S&M”. There’s a part in the video that shows a pad she’s writing  on and It says “Rihanna Princess of the Illuminati”. It appears at 3:20 in the video and is visible for less than a second. The lyrics for S&M go right along with the illuminati “I may be bad, but I’m perfectly good at it.”  Many interpret Rihanna’s lyrics as being sexual but illuminati are known to have double meaning to their songs.  The double meaning keeps the general public from knowing the truth because most people will not think twice. 

Pop Bottles Cape Town-an epic fail

On the 30^th of September, Cape Town had its 4^th Pop Bottles party and it everything but “popping”.  The age ranges from 21-31years old. “The previous Pop Bottles Cape Town parties were held Casablanca, Azura, St Yves, Constantia, and they received OK reviews” says Thuli Luthando an avid attendee. Attending the event proved to be disappointing and wasteful. Most people were excited about Pop Bottles coming back to Cape Town because Pop Bottles Johannesburg is always a success. Johannesburg receives so much success because of its appeal to the young and fresh crowd.

“The Cape Royal Hotel Penthouse was not the appropriate venue for an event of that size and magnitude” said a blogger. Not only was it a nightmare trying to get to the Penthouse, it was impossible trying to get wristbands to get access to the Elevators leading to the event on the roof. The venue was not given much thought and the planners focused on the exclusivity of the venue rather than the logistics of it.  On Arrival at the Penthouse using one of the 4 very small elevators, attendees were greeted by 50 other attendees blocking the entry way, that had no tables or place to stand accept for that one entry way. Manoeuvring through the crowd was impossible and the 3 bar areas that were there, were either too small or short staffed. On entry, a ramp to the middle of the rooftop you were greeted by two pools on either side as one walked that did not have fencing around. At an event with hundreds of people and alcohol being served, it was inevitable that someone would take a spill, fortunately the girl did not get hurt but was drenched forcing her to leave the event early.

On top of the crowded entry way, there were only 3 bathrooms available to the attendees, 2 at the rooftop area floor an d 1 up stairs at the second penthouse suit that was used by the gents. The line to the bathroom was longer than the queue to enter the Elevators and they did not have cleaning ladies stationed at the bathroom, leaving the toilets dirty and in no state to use. To add insult to injury, they had a coupon system to purchase alcohol at the bar, which you had to go back downstairs to buy. As beautiful as Cape Royal is, by the end of the night the toilets looked like Public Train Station bathrooms and smelt as equally bad.
